Jinchang
I was born in Jinchang, a city in Gansu’s Hexi Corridor, and lived there for my first ten years, until I moved to Lanzhou before fourth grade. It is the first name on this map, and the place where the route begins.
Born inland, schooled beside the Yellow River, then south for university and farther south again. The route, in order.
← Back to Live My LifeI was born in Jinchang, a city in Gansu’s Hexi Corridor, and lived there for my first ten years, until I moved to Lanzhou before fourth grade. It is the first name on this map, and the place where the route begins.
In 2012, I moved to Lanzhou, a city on the Yellow River, and started fourth grade there. I spent the next nine years in the city, through the end of high school.
For university, I moved south to Zhuhai, where I spent four years studying accounting at UIC (now BNBU) and received my bachelor’s degree from Hong Kong Baptist University. It was my first time living far from home.
My parents had already taken me across much of China when I was younger, but these were the years when I began travelling on my own, usually without a fixed itinerary. I made sixty-one visits across twenty-six cities, and the distribution reflects where I was based, with Guangzhou twelve times, Hong Kong nine, Shenzhen five and Macau once. Together, these nearby destinations account for 44% of all visits. Chengdu, visited eight times, is the clear exception to that geographic pattern.
In February 2026, I moved to Sydney to pursue a Master of Commerce in Business Analytics at UNSW. This is where I study and work now, and where the map pauses, for the moment.
